He discovered mountain biking as an alternative when he moved to Cape Town after finishing school. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Schalk became even more passionate about the sport. Since then, he has seized every opportunity to get on the bike. Now, he spends his free time mountain biking near his home in Ireland. "Whether it is surfing or being out on the trails, it requires a 110% focus all the time. Things happen fast and one has to think and act in split seconds. This year, 17 entities participated in our annual global cleanup initiative in support of the UN #WorldCleanupDay, setting a new record for participation. It was an opportunity for all employees to come together in a shared effort to give back to nature and demonstrate our commitment to environmental responsibility. We also took a new step this year by collecting data on the trash gathered for local Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). By doing so, we are not only creating cleaner local environments, but also making a measurable global impact. With over 280 participants, including employees and their families, our collective contribution totalled around 1,200 kg of waste, demonstrating the impact of coming together for a great cause.
