Efficient inspection and maintenance of jacking systems

Timely mobilisations enabled by strong global presence

Client: Leading Jack-Up Drilling Contractor
Industry: Offshore Drilling
Assets: Jack-up rigs
Locations: KSA, Thailand, India, Bahrain, UAE, Nigeria, Croatia
Year: 2020 – 2021

Challenge

Jacking systems are the most critical component of jack-up rigs as they ensure their stability. The client required inspection and overhaul of the jacking systems on 20 of their jack-up rigs in multiple locations worldwide, as part of the 5-yearly Special Periodical Surveys (SPS).

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, they faced challenges related to the mobilisation of personnel, cost and time. They then contracted Axess Group to carry out the inspection and maintenance of jacking systems due to its global presence and experience in this area.

Solution

With Axess’ presence in multiple countries worldwide, local personnel were mobilised to the jack-up rigs in a timely manner. To minimise carbon emissions, mobilisations were kept to a minimum by having the team inspect multiple rigs in one region, one after another.

The inspection and maintenance of jacking systems is one service that Axess offers as part of its Asset Integrity Management (AIM) service portfolio. It was carried out following guidelines by ABS and DNV.

With experience working on a range of jacking systems, the team of qualified inspectors utilised a wide range of traditional and advanced examination and testing techniques, including Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) for examining gears and boroscopic inspection.

All the projects were completed in time and on budget. Axess received excellent feedback across all 20 projects.

“I am very proud that we could support the client even during the pandemic, while ensuring the health and safety of our team members. I am also thankful to our team members who were willing to travel during this period,” said Ravi Mishra, Regional Manager of Middle East at Axess Group.
