Challenge
As both an onshore and offshore drilling company, Gulf Drilling International owns and operates a range of rigs. To support these rigs, it maintains a shorebase warehouse that stores a variety of essential equipment, including blowout preventers (BOPs), and other well control equipment. To enhance the safe and secure storage of heavy and high-value equipment, Gulf Drilling required an EOT crane to be installed in the warehouse.
Solution
Axess Dubai was contracted to deliver, install, and commission a 30T EOT crane, specifically designed to meet its lifting and storage needs. The crane is equipped with travelling and hoist limit switches, along with an overload protection system.
The team planned the project, developed a quality assurance production plan, and successfully delivered, installed, and commissioned the crane following a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT). Subsequently, the team provided the crew with training on operating the crane.
Results
With the new crane in operation, safety standards have been elevated, reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring a safer working environment.
“The advanced crane provides precise control over the heavy equipment, allowing for accurate lifting, lowering, and positioning, while preventing accidental damage to the equipment and harm to the crew,” Faisal Amir, Technical Manager – Middle East at Axess Group said.
Gergely Varadi, Optimisation and Efficiency Manager at Gulf Drilling, said, “Being a one-off project, it had its challenges, but I want to commend the Axess team for tireless efforts to make it a successful one. This upgrade to our handling capabilities will greatly improve the quality of preservation of our high-value, criticality, and weight equipment.”
Lijo Jacob, Cataloguing Head at Gulf Drilling, added, “The crane marks a significant milestone in the history of the facility. The crew has been thoroughly trained in the operation of the crane, ensuring compliance with all necessary safety protocols and documentation requirements.”
